WalkMe Survey: 80% of Enterprise Workers Bypassing or Rejecting Employer AI Tools

2026-04-16 13:05

A WalkMe global survey of 3,750 executives and employees across 14 countries found that 54% of workers bypassed their company's AI tools in the past 30 days and completed work manually, with another 33% not using AI at all—meaning roughly 80% of enterprise workers are avoiding or rejecting the technology their employers are spending heavily to deploy. The survey also identified a 52-point trust gap: only 9% of workers trust AI for complex decisions, versus 61% of executives. Fortune's coverage attributes the adoption gap to persistent hallucinations, privacy concerns, and a newly named phenomenon called FOBO (fear of becoming obsolete), with some employees going as far as tampering with performance metrics to make AI look less effective.
