Mozilla Launches Thunderbolt, an Open-Source Self-Hostable Enterprise AI Client

2026-04-17 01:05

MZLA Technologies (Mozilla's for-profit subsidiary) released Thunderbolt on April 16, positioning it as a sovereign alternative to Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise, and Claude Enterprise. Built with deepset's open-source Haystack framework, Thunderbolt supports MCP servers, ACP agents, and user-chosen models — commercial or open-source — and runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. Organizations can self-deploy with optional end-to-end encryption; a hosted beta for smaller teams is opening for sign-ups.
