Duolingo has unlocked B2-level (upper-intermediate/advanced) language content for free-tier learners in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. The newly available material includes Advanced Stories (reading comprehension without translations) and DuoRadio (podcast-style audio). Previously, free users were capped at roughly A2–B1 proficiency levels. The move is part of CEO Luis von Ahn's strategy of reducing friction in the free tier to drive word-of-mouth growth rather than monetizing through content paywalls.
