OpenAI announced it has signed contracts for 10 gigawatts of US AI compute capacity under its Stargate initiative, reaching a target originally set for 2029 just 15 months after the project launched in January 2025, according to Bloomberg. More than 3 GW was added in the past 90 days alone, with the first active site in Abilene, Texas and additional sites under development in Texas, New Mexico, Wisconsin, and Michigan. The $500 billion infrastructure project is built with Oracle, NVIDIA, SoftBank, and Microsoft as partners, with NVIDIA having committed to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI progressively as each gigawatt comes online.
