A hacktivist group calling itself the Islamic Cyber Resistance in Iraq 313 Team launched a sustained DDoS attack against Canonical on May 1, disrupting Ubuntu's security API, package mirrors, and several websites for over 20 hours and preventing users from installing or updating packages. TechCrunch and The Register reported the group claimed to be using Beamed, a DDoS-for-hire service capable of exceeding 3.5 Tbps, and posted extortion demands on Telegram instructing Canonical to make contact or face continued attacks.
