Colorado AG Will Not Enforce AI Act Until Rulemaking Completes as Legislature Considers Near-Total Rewrite

Colorado's AI Act (SB 24-205) is scheduled to take effect June 30, 2026, but the state attorney general's office announced on April 24 it will not seek enforcement until interpretive rulemaking is complete—rulemaking that has not yet begun. Separately, Governor Polis's AI Policy Work Group released a proposed replacement framework on March 17 that drops algorithmic-discrimination reporting requirements and impact assessments in favor of consumer notice, post-adverse-decision disclosure, and mandatory human review. A replacement bill would delay the effective date to January 1, 2027. The legislature closes May 13.
